I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions concerning the 144,000 redeemed from the earth. In Revelation 7 there are 144,000 Jews* sealed before the opening of the seventh seal to protect them during the last 14 judgments. They will go through the tribulation with God's supernatural protection. The 144,000 that are mentioned in Rev. 14 were redeemed bodily from the earth. These are the armies of the Lord that will return with Him as stated by Enoch and quoted in Jude 14 and 15.
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints.
15 To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.
There are also some women and children who will be taken also as mentioned by Jesus, but these are not counted among the armies of the Lord. The rest of the believers will be martyred for their faith.
In Revelation 6:9-11 we read of the first group of martyrs:
9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellowservants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.
In Ch. 7 we see the sealing of the 144,000 Jews and then starting in verse 9 we have the fulfillment of those killed as mentioned in 6:11. Revelation 7:9-14 states:
9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;
10 And cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.
11 And all the angels stood round about the throne, and about the elders and the four beasts, and fell before the throne on their faces, and worshipped God,

As we can see here, the vast majority of believers will be matyred for their faith in the first half of the 70th week spoken of by the prophet Daniel. Salvation and eternal security are freely offered to all those who put their trust in Jesus Christ and call upon His name. But an escape from death is only given to those whom God has appointed. This is the sign of Enoch to the last generation.
D&C 77:11
11 Q. What are we to understand by sealing the one hundred and forty-four thousand, out of all the tribes of Israel--twelve thousand out of every tribe?
A. We are to understand that those who are sealed are high priests, ordained unto the holy order of God, to administer the everlasting gospel; for they are they who are ordained out of every nation, kindred,
tongue, and people, by the angels to whom is given power over the nations of the earth, to bring as many as will come to the church of the Firstborn.

The 144 or 153, is the number of the Eloheim, or the Elect Ones who Helped to organize this world before it was created. It is the number which sits on the grand council of heaven. 9 preside over the council, And the council consists of 144. I was shown these things during a vision of the pre-earth life and that I sat on this grand council which directs over the church of the First Born. The Lord also revealed to me that I was part of this church before the world began, yet I still wait for ordinations from the Father. For whatsoever is done in heaven will be done on earth.
Even in the numbers themselves is coded the Council of the Nine.
1+4+4 = 9 1+5+3 = 9
9 plus 3 (the godhead) is 12, which makes up the council of twelve in the Celestial realm. At times others replace the godhead when performing missions on other worlds, at times the godhead is represented by Peter, James and John, who would direct over the council of the 9.
Approximately 153, or 153,000 shall inherit the Celestial Glory as Gods from this earth. And these were Gods before this earth or angels with authority of the godhood.

NOTE: One time as I was talking to one of my friends, - a lady with great inspiration, who can see things visionly with her third eye, some might call her a psychic though she does not call herself that, but more of a visionary as she worships Jesus Christ- said to me that she knew who I was and that I was a gatekeeper in heaven.
QUESTION:Can you please explain your basis for deciding that the 144,000 are all Jews? In my mind, this directly contradicts the descriptions of Revelation 7, as well as the Doctrine & Covenants passages.
ANSWER: Yes, I can see where that could be confusing. In the way I phrased it it could seem I was just referring to the physical jewish descent. (Tribe of Judah) But JEW is a term for the covenant people of the Lord, as Gentiles were denied blessings that Jews were. Gentiles are told that they must repent and cleanse themselves of their inquities (we are the gentiles) and then be adopted into the covenant. So the term in which I used "Jews" in this article may also be replaced with "Sons of God," "The First Born," "The Eloheim," "The Lambs of God," ect. But looking at things from the Biblical perspective for those who are not LDS so to say- they understand that the covenant sons and daughters of God are called by God, "Jews."
These are not the literal seed, but spiritual, because they are brought in by faith. So we hear Paul saying in Romans 2:28-29:
"He is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh; but he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter."
Again Paul says in Romans 9:6-8:
"They are not all Israel which are of Israel; neither, because they are of the seed of Abraham, are they all children; but in Isaac shall thy seed be called. That is,
they which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted for the seed."
And he adds in Galatians 4:28 that:
"We, brethren (Christians), as Isaac was, are the children of promise."
And he adds in the next verse, that he (Isaac) was born after the spirit.
COMMENT: Interesting that the description of the new tabernacle in SL that was put in the SL tribune said that the new tabernacle would have 144 seats for the leaders. Methinks they are using same symbolism, as 144 is one of the sacred numbers?
Also, article said that there would be offices for the leaders and a tunnel system to link the tabernacle to all of the other temple square buildings. The tabernacle could only be of limited height, so much construction underground and the upper parts would be planted with gardens. There would be a waterfall and terraces that would look like a terraced garden by those whose homes look over the place....
First thoughts to mind were the similarity to the hanging gardens in Babylon and the "high seats in the synagogues" so condemned by Christ in Matthew 23. No offense intened here, just that the similarities came to mind.

ANSWER: Actually, you are perfectly correct in pointing out the symbolism of the number. The number 12 is a number which represents Priesthood. The number 1,000 indicates a superlative quality, that of being near to God. So we take the number 12, times it by itself to get 144, then times that by 1,000 to get 144,000. The idea is that the Priesthood these men have is of great power, being nigh unto the power of God. They hold the fullness of the Priesthood, and by that power are able to carry out their mission.
However, all things symbolic are also literal. There will be exactly 144,000 men who are called to this mission. They personify the power they hold.

Interesting the Levels of Light (Rigby) says that 144,000 is the number of the Fathers. That is, there were 144,000 Fathers or Adams in the Garden (along with Eves) and that Michael is the spokesman for this group.
These are the Fathers whose hearts have turned to the children and waiting for the children to turn to the Fathers.

This name is the same as the seal of God brought to view in Rev.7; hence this company is the same as the 144,000 of chapter 7.
